The Aztecs were a powerful native tribe in the Present Day locations of Mexico,
Central and South America. They lived in peace for a while until in 1521,
Spanish Conquistadors led by Hernando Cortes came in ships and started taking
thier land away. They fought back, but were no match for their guns, animals and
diseases. Most of them died from smallpox. On August 13, 1521, Moctezuma II, the
last ruler of the Aztecs, gave up the city of Tenochtitlan to the Spanish. Most
of the Aztecs gave up their way of life and learned the life of the Spaniards.
